Strategy vs Tactics: Converting Poker Theory Into Winnings

Posted on

In this video, Jim James Jr. from Automatic Poker Academy uses chess as an analogy when explaining the difference between the strategic game versus the tactical game in poker. Our strategy is based around fundamentals and adjustments made to particular opponents at the poker table. Tactics are the actions we employ to carry out our strategy.

It’s easy to get bogged down in focusing on poker tactics, for example when to bet, how much to bet, when to call, when to raise, when to 3-bet.. what to do when 3-bet etc etc etc. A lot of times we learn this stuff in a vacuum without any sense of exactly when/how to implement all of those ideas.
